St. Thomas, VI - Before the upcoming tourist season, Sen. Donna Frett-Gregory is calling upon Governor Albert Bryan Jr., Commissioner Richard Evangelista of the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs and Tourism Commissioner Designee Joseph Boschulte to invest in the appearance of Vendors Plaza.
“We can do better.” Sen. Frett-Gregory said. “As peak season approaches, leaders desperately need to make every effort to enhance the appearance of Vendors Plaza.”
What should be a visitor’s delight and a point of pride with locals has become an eyesore. Instead of a prime shopping location offering visitors a shaded retreat, Vendors Plaza looks like a makeshift shopping bazaar.
“With the Charlotte Amalie Waterfront Expansion Project underway, there may be other plans for Vendors Plaza down the road,” said Frett-Gregory. “However, we cannot just ignore Vendors Plaza. At the very least, we need to invest in their appearance in the interim.”
Senator Frett-Gregory is asking that Vendors Plaza funds be put to immediate use.
“Renovating Vendors Plaza would improve a vital piece of the St. Thomas tourism product,” Sen. Frett-Gregory said. “Allowing it to continue to languish shows a lack of commitment to the tourist experience.”
