Kids Kitchen "Summer Saturdays" Meal Program

St. Thomas, USVI – Beginning this Saturday, June 12, 2021, Senator Donna A. Frett-Gregory in conjunction with the DFG Community Impact Foundation of the Virgin Islands, Inc., will launch its Kids Kitchen initiative. “Kids Kitchen was birthed to aid in curbing food insecurity amongst our children,” stated Senator Donna A. Frett-Gregory.

This summer we will be hosting the “Kids Kitchen Summer Saturdays” meal program from June 12th to July 31st. We will visit communities, weekend camps, and playgrounds to provide meals. The meals will be all pre-packaged for distribution in keeping with coronavirus protocols and guidelines. “It is important to recognize matters that are impacting our community and do our best to give back even if it is only in a small way,” said Frett-Gregory. The purpose of Kids Kitchen is to ensure that no child goes hungry by helping to close the gap of childhood hunger. The long-term goal of Kids Kitchen is to be able to provide meals every Saturday during the summer months at the various communities across the territory.

Many community partners have stepped up to assist with this program to include: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. - Sigma Theta Omega Chapter, St. Thomas Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., CBI Acquisitions, LLC, White Bay Global Inc., Dudley Newman Feuerzeig LLP, Sunshine Shopping Center, Inc., Tap-N-Still St. John, Chicken-N-Bowling, St. Thomas Lodge #9679, McDonalds USVI and the St. Thomas Restaurant Group. “This initiative would not have been possible without their generous contributions and with their assistance, we will be able to visit eight (8) locations this summer. It is always a good thing when members of our community and local businesses generously support impactful initiatives such as this,” concluded Senator Frett-Gregory.

High school students are encouraged to volunteer to assist with “Summer Saturdays” and can earn up to 20 community service hours.
