Donna listens to the voice of the people and has the courage and fighting spirit to push for true comprehensive change. She did so when she wrote the tax amnesty bill to exempt Virgin Islanders from having to pay penalties on back-taxes while recovering from Hurricanes IrMaria, and even when she demanded Congress provide the Territory with its fair share of Medicaid funding so qualified Virgin Islanders can receive quality healthcare. Since taking office, over 20 pieces of her legislation have been signed into law, including measures to boost our economy, improve healthcare, fund GERS, and ensure our children receive a quality education—and she doesn’t plan to stop there.
She is crafting measures to tackle education reform, and her focus on economic development can be seen in her joint legislation to provide funding to help small businesses recover from COVID-19, and to bring oversight to WAPA.
